This photo is the sunrise version captured underneath the seating at the Blackrock baths. It was taken the morning after the sunset version, which was a huge stroke of luck as the weather had to be perfect at both times and with the tide out. I had monitored the position of the sun over the year and I knew that I was running out of time before the sun would rise to far to the right and out of view. I couldn't have wished for better conditions. The sun rose in the optimal location, peeking through the triangle formed between the radiating beams and the surround to the window opening. I really wanted to create an atmosphere similar to the 1970's Coca Cola adds full of sunshine and optimism, but from an unconventional subject. I wanted to show the sunshine penetrating this cold stark space and filling it with a wonderful glow to make the whole space come alive.

Radiating beams, Blackrock Baths at Sunrise received a Gold award in the judging round of the 2012 Irish Professional Photographer's Association (IPPA) photographer of the year awards. It went onto to receive single best image award in the pictorial category in the IPPA awards, which were held in the Burlington Hotel on the 26th of February 2012
