About this image

This image was taken at the quaint Coliemore Harbour in Dalkey. You can see Dalkey island in the background. I wanted to take images of the Harbour in Black and white and to break it down into simple forms. I wanted to achieve rich blacks in the sky, so I waited for a bright day with a nice blue sky. I started shooting in the early afternoon to maximise the contrast. The triangulation of the piers and wall in the foreground form an apex in front of the tower on the island so the eye is drawn to it.

Coliemore Harbour 2 received a Gold award in 2011 IPPA photographer of the year awards.
